Floor Screeding

A very important part of construction is floor screeding. No matter what is being constructed, screeding plays a very important role in achieving the correct u-values for insulation and sound base for other floor finishes. Imagine the beautiful house you stay in without screeding or proper leveling. It wouldn’t be the way it is appearing to you at the moment. It would be a lot different.

Before we start describing more about screeding, it’s extremely vital to first properly know of what is the basic meaning of screeding. Screeding, by definition means the proper leveling of the materials that are placed on the floors or even on the walls in any type of construction work which may include plastering or even concrete work. It gets difficult to even imagine a simple wall being in three different levels unless it is designed in that way. Thus, screeding is a very important part in any building or construction work. Every material used in creating the wall or the floors require a proper leveling to reflect the beauty of the design and the material. You may be utilising very high quality materials to decorate your house, but if the screeding work is not done properly, using the supreme quality material is of no use.

As traditional floor screeders we nearly always recommend sand and cement screed: This is one of the most common type of floor screed and is also the most ideal type. Floor screed is basically retarded in nature so that it can remain in the workable condition for as long as 8-12 hours. The proper dispersion of the cement gives a more refined and uniform compressive strength to the entire floor area on which it is used. As long as a high quality supplier of screed is used, the outcome of using the concrete screed is supreme in quality and guaranteed. But from time to time we do get asked to do Epoxy, Anhydrite & Polymer screeds but are not the most common of screeds and really for specialist jobs like factories, plants and refineries.
